Therapy

Exercise, and dance in particular has always been therapy for me.  As a person who has spent most of my life being physically active and athletic it's no secret to me what science has now confirmed.  One of the many benefits of exercise includes its mood-altering properties.  Our brains release "feel good" hormones that circulate in our systems for hours after the exercise stops.

Thanks for visiting my blog Dancing Beyond Clutter where we explore the "inner work" of organizing through the metaphor of dance.  It's funny, but when I'm feeling anxious or upset the best way for me to get out of myself is to grab my vacuum cleaner and go crazy.  If it's not the vacuum then you're likely to find me going through closets and drawers throwing things out, pulling donations, and reorganizing the rest.

What I love about my job as a professional organizer is that I can share those feel-good benefits with my clients.  It's not unusual when starting a session to feel some resistance and fear about the process.  At first, it may be difficult to make choices about what to keep and what to let go of, but as time passes my clients often begin to loosen up and feel the weight (both literal and figurative) of all the "stuff" they've been holding onto, lifted from them.

By the time we're through, I can see a marked change not only in the room or area we've organized, but in the facial expression, body language, and verbal feedback I get.  I know that after I leave the benefits of what we've accomplished together will far outlast the time we spent together achieving our results.
