Clean Out Your Closets Month

Here it is, the first of the year -- and you are probably buried in holiday gifts. What do you do with it all? Where will you put it? Your best bet is to clean out your CLOSETS and get rid of those things you never use. Everyone owns at least one item that hasn't been touched in years -- a bowling ball, a pantsuit from 1963, a broken toaster. Clear out the old to make way for the new! You will find cleaning out to be an incredibly FREEING experience. And really, what better way to start out the new year? This month, let's make an effort to clear out the CLUTTER -- and create some order and breathing room in your living environment.

Some Practical Organizing Tips...

Start with just one SMALL area. Don't try to tackle every closet in your house -- or even one entire closet. Begin with one rod, or a drawer, or a shelf in your closet. Once you have tackled that area, move on to another and another and another.
Ask yourself some hard QUESTIONS as you clean out -- be brutal as you examine each item. When did you use it last? When will you use it again? What purpose does it serve in your life? What is the worst thing that would happen if you got rid of it?
There are only three reasons to KEEP an item -- because it is beautiful, useful, or loved. Use this as the yard stick against which you measure each item in your closets -- if it doesn't fit into one of these three categories, why keep it?
